Day #179: Truth

“Twilight, you know we’re always here for you no matter what.“

“Y-Yeah, I know Dad. You’re right.”

“Now wipe those tears away little lady, if you’re going to be moving out there for my grandkid, I want to make sure you’re living somewhere safe, preferably with a hotel nearby so your father and I have somewhere to stay when we visit!”



Twilight told her parents the complete and honest truth. The girl she married was from another world filled to the brim with magic and adventure – and that she herself had tampered with that magic many moons ago when she was still a lonely student at Crystal Prep Academy.

What Twilight didn’t know before this day, however, was that Velvet and Night Light had previously discovered Equestria several years ago. The two of them work hand-in-hand with A.K. Yearling, aka Daring Do; they edit and publish her novels, and they’d grown quite close as employers. When the parents found out Twilight had a girlfriend they knew nothing about, their parental instincts kicked in. This girl had no history, no background information, no citizenship, almost as if she had appeared out of thin air.

In between editing, they hired Daring Do for somewhat of a Private Investigator contract. Daring sought out who exactly Sunset Shimmer was. In the process, she uncovered the events of the Fall Formal and others that occurred at Canterlot High School. Soon enough, that led to her discovery of Equestria.

Though almost implausible to Velvet and Night Light, they believed Daring Do’s tall tale of a portal leading to a world full of sentient equines and other creatures. Daring wouldn’t lie to a client – let alone a client that had been a part of her business for years upon end. She showed them photos and artifacts, anything just enough to prove this world was real and true without disturbing what was built there.

Velvet and Night Light never intended to confront their daughter about their discovery. She finally, finally had someone who she cared about – and who cared about her in return. That was one thing they’d been longing for for many years. If they forced Sunset away due to fear of the unknown, Twilight would just revert back to her old ways and life a lonely, unhappy life. Instead, the two of them made sure to watch over their daughter without growing too overprotective. Just enough to keep them at ease until the day they’d hoped Twilight would come to them and share her experiences.

The only thing they weren’t expecting was the fact that they’d have a new member of the family arriving soon…
